Amanda Ling aka DJ Doopz
Inducted into the Singapore local music scene as a keyboardist with now-defunct local experimental jazz funk band, Throb in 2003, she soon joined highly acclaimed rock band, Electrico, in 2004 and was instrumental in propelling the band into the consciousness of mainstream Singapore for 5 enriching years before striking out on her own.
Not wanting to restrict herself to playing keyboards and production in the band scene, she explored the Electronic music and Dance scene as well. Since 2005, her Live Electronic DJ Duo act, “The Synth Experience” (formerly known as “The Vibesetters”) has performed at various events such as the Elle Awards in 2009, a radio interview & live showcase on LUSH 99.5FM and Club sets at Zouk, former Ministry of Sound, Thumper, Rouge, Hacienda, Prive and Tanjong Beach Club etc…
At present, she is the keyboardist of local instrumental supergroup, In Each Hand A Cutlass (IEHAC), who opened for American instrumental rock band, Russian Circles in Zouk 2010. IEHAC launched their debut album, “A Universe Made Of Strings” in June 2011 and their Sophomore album, “The Kraken” in April 2015 with a sold–out concert at The Esplanade Recital Studio on both launches.
In September 2016, the band played at Big Sound music conference and festival in Brisbane, followed by a China tour, including an appearance at the Concrete and Grass Music Festival in Shanghai. IEHAC is currently developing future touring plans and festival shows both regionally and internationally.
At the same time, they are also working on new releases.
Amanda’s influences encompass a wide spectrum of genres including: Indie, Alternative Rock, Metal, Electronic, Ambient, World Music, Trip Hop, Jazz, Bossa Nova, Classical, House, drum and Bass, Broken Beats, Breakbeats and Techno.
Further expression of her musical virtuosity brought Amanda to the dance scene under DJ moniker Doopz. A highly sought after DJ for high fashion and niche events, Doopz is deft at mixing in a vast variety of genres including House, Trip Hop, Indie Rock and Jazz. Traversing through sonically raw mixes of the new and old-school, her mixes create experiences engaging an eclectic range of music from Ambient/Electronic, Indie Electronica, Deep, Soulful House, Nu Disco to Tech House tunes. For a time, she was also resident DJ of Woobar at W Hotel , KPO and Balaclava bar.
Complimenting yoga practices with her live DJ set, she curates an eclectic journey into Ambient, Electronica, Post-Rock and percussive beats that support the deep self healing practice of a yoga enthusiast.
What had started as her first appearance at the Live Yoga Flow set at Stretch City’s #OmTogether event in Oct 2014 — an inspirational initiative with 700 over yogis in attendance, ignited an appeal that propelled her further as a live yoga DJ. Since then, she has been invited to perform for major Yoga+Music Festivals in Singapore as well as intimate yoga events.
In 2015, after taking some workshops with her teacher, Akiko Igarashi, she started her sound healing journey with Tibetan Singing Bowls. Her fervour for the continual learning and study at Shima Healing has led her into an apprenticeship program as an understudy with Akiko. She is currently a Facilitator & Senior Apprentice with Shima Healing.
She became deeply inspired by the healing wonders of sound vibrations after experiencing some transformational shifts from within after working with the bowls. Her musical and yogic sensibilities serve as a great foundation allowing a deeper understanding in her singing bowl and sound journey.
This propelled her to take on an online Sound Healing Audio Production Certificate Course (Globe Sound and Consciousness Institute, San Francisco), furthering her pursuit of sound healing music production. The learning never stops. She is excited to share and serve the community through collaboration in conducting workshops and events, raising awareness to uplift one’s experiences in a soulful and purposeful way.
