My Transformation
In recent times, the focus on mental wellness has significantly intensified. This topic resonates deeply with me, as I’ve navigated through anxiety and hormonal imbalances from a young age. Traditional psychiatric therapy and mainstream medication, though extensive, failed to address the root causes or provide sustainable strategies, leaving me feeling “numbed”, foggy and disempowered. It was through my yoga practice that I found hope and grounding, eventually steering away from medication, smoking, and an excessive nightlife tied to my past in the entertainment industry. This marked the beginning of my journey towards natural healing methods( holistic functional nutrition, essential oils, tcm, herbal supplements, energy healing, etc…) and a more holistic approach to well-being. These choices led me into the wellness industry in 2012, where I embraced roles as a yoga teacher, wellness advocate, sound healing practitioner and decluttering consultant, transitioning from a stressful lifestyle to one of balance and fulfilment.
The Holistic Connection In Health
The Western allopathic medicine, which is influenced by Descartes' philosophy, views the mind and body as distinct entities. This approach typically centers on suppressing symptoms, while potentially neglecting the integral, holistic connection that exists between the body, mind, and spirit.
A good percentage of modern day illnesses which can be said to be influenced by psychosomatic origins, seem to be triggered by lifestyle habits and challenges, implying their origin in the mind. This underscores the importance of our thoughts, considering the average person has estimately 60,000 thoughts per day. The mind and human consciousness doesn’t define time and itself through the lens of the past, present and future as we know of it. So whatever we think in our minds, that will be what it holds for in truth true for the moment. When we are able to see the connection between the thought patterns which affect our moods and therefore, our health, we would start being more mindful about how we treat ourselves from within.
The continuous learning and self-development journey across various healing modalities have shaped my understanding, knowledge and approach to wellness, emphasizing the interconnectedness of our being.
Heart-Centered Practices and Emotional Resilience
The Heart Math Institute highlights how Heart Coherence practices such as heart-centred breath work and gratitude practices can enhance both physical and emotional heart health. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is a key indicator of emotional and mental resilience, influenced significantly by breathing patterns, which often reflect our emotional states. Regular heart-centred practices can improve HRV, contributing to overall well-being– improved physical health, including heart and respiratory health, and blood pressure.
Heart Coherence
Have you ever walked into a room where people were arguing and felt something was off, or a room where a wedding was held and there was a lot of joy and love lingering in it, or you simply meet someone and you can "vibe" with them or not based on what "resonates" with you, or not?
Our bodies are more than just physical entities; they encompass bio-electromagnetic fields generated by organs, especially the heart. These fields, resonating with our own vibrational frequencies, impact our health and our environment. The heart, as the epicenter of our being, plays a crucial role in emitting frequencies that influence our moods and surroundings. Recognizing this interconnectedness can profoundly shift your approach to wellness.
The Energy-Sensitive
For those more sensitive to energy, the influence of external emotions and environments is more pronounced. Understanding the need for regular quiet time, energetic grounding, and shielding becomes essential in maintaining a balanced state. It's a fascinating topic, which I plan to delve into more in future discussions.
Nature's Role in Harmonizing Our Lives
Despite the constant chaos and conflict around us, nature remains consistent, unconditional, and predictable. Every day, the sun will rise and set at similar timings.. As living beings on Earth, we are inherently sensitive to natural cycles, but our modern digitalised lifestyle has disconnected us from this flow, causing us much dissonance and distress.
When you learn to appreciate and align with the inner workings of nature's cycles, you will "retune" to a more natural flow and reality, resulting in improved health and vitality.
Taking regular nature walks or sitting/walking on the grass barefoot for at least 30 minutes has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and therapeutic benefits for our immunity and overall health.
Walking and being barefoot on the soil allows you to release excess energy stored in your body in the form of stress, anger, and anxiety, which can manifest as physical ailments, pain, and chronic issues, while also absorbing the earth's healing and nourishing energies through your feet and into our bodies. Best of all, you can access it at any time, for free!
Everyone has their own unique rhythm and tempo in life. You don't always need to "catch up" or "beat match" with society's rhythms. Identify your best tempo and pace to optimize the flow in the various parts of life.. If you're at a crossroads in your life or profession, it's important to reconnect with your own truths, stay focused, and balance joy and enjoyment.
Facing Life’s Changes with Mindfulness and Acceptance
Dealing with life's changes involves a spectrum of emotions, from excitement to fear and anxiety. Mindfulness practices, meditation, and a slower pace of life allow for a deeper understanding and acceptance of these emotions. Letting go of rigid expectations and embracing life's surprises with gratitude can profoundly shift your perspective and approach to change.
Willingness as Catalyst For Change
Willingness to embrace change is a fundamental attitude to adopt in the first step of wanting to improve your life.. Identifying causes of distress is a start, while finding out ways to implement new habits and mindsets gave ample space for exploration, experimentation, implementation and integration. Having able to have an open heart and mind in these changes can create a more peaceful and balanced life. However, this process requires patience, as people often revert to old habits when immediate results aren't seen as quickly. Real change requires genuine, continuous effort across all life aspects.
Suggested Strategies for Embracing Change
Embracing change, even when it's uncomfortable, is essential.
Identify resistance or blocks preventing you and work through them
Clarity about the desired outcome and daily reinforcement of these goals
Daily gratitude practice helps strengthen emotional and mental resilience and positive attitude
Committing to changes, even those outside our comfort zone, is key to growth.
Know your limits. There will be good and bad days. Learning to step back during stressful times and giving things more space might be needed, or pushing beyond your boundaries for a good measure of challenge on a good day could create new heights of growth
Don’t be too hard on yourself. Celebrate the little wins at every turning point of change and effort
A Continuing Journey
