Grief, Mental Health & AI vs Humanity | Yen-Lu Chow & Amanda Ling
In Episode 3 of The Sounding Ground, I invite Yen-Lu Chow, founder of the nonprofit mental wellness platform Over-The-Rainbow, co-founder and director of the Asia Institute of Mentoring, and founder of the Deep Human Movement.
In the spirit of World Mental Health Month 2026, this episode explores grief after loss, mental health among today’s youth and adults, and the impact of AI on humanity.
We chat about his journey of navigating grief and rebuilding his mental well-being following the tragic suicide of his son, who lived with manic depression. He shares the pressing challenges young people face today, including loneliness, social media pressures and a declining sense of hope for their future.
The conversation then turns to a critical topic of our time: AI and its impact on humanity. We explore the risks of cognitive and emotional outsourcing, what we stand to lose when we give away our agency to AI technology, and how we can cultivate a deeper sense of humanity through ancient wisdom, meditation, inner work and a reconnection with nature.
How can we remain deeply human in an increasingly digital world? Join us as we explore grief, healing, hope and the importance of reconnecting with ourselves and one another.
*Content Warning: This episode discusses themes of suicide, mental health issues and grief processes. Please honour your own boundaries. *
